💛 Meet Thandiwe. Her name means ‘beloved’ in Xhosa. Thandiwe is celebrating Heritage Day with family and friends. They are going to enjoy a braai (BBQ) with a sheep that has been slaughtered for the occasion. On her head, she’s carrying a heavy dish of dumplings. They will be served with tripe (ulusu) along with the sheeps head and trotters as snacks.
💛 It’s hard to describe exactly how beautifully exquisite this doll is. She has been lovingly hand-made by the talented Sibo using paper mache. Her blue dress is designed and hand sewn using traditional South African shweshwe fabric. Her hair is made from wool and she has been sprayed with a glue to stiffen the fabric. Every detail has been carefully considered, from her headscarf to her jewellery. The base is made from rolled up newspaper, it is completely functional as a stand.
💛 Thandiwe is completely unique and is one of a kind.
💛 She is perfect in her imperfection and has some wear and tear, please view the photographs carefully.
💛 Thandiwe is extremely delicate and is for decoration only. She is not suitable as a toy for children
💛 Size: Approx. 30cm tall and 12 cm wide.
💛 Sibo lives in the Eastern Cape. To read more about her story, navigate to the blog page on our website.
