💛 Meet Gugu. Her name means ‘our pride’. She was named by her mother-in-law when she became her daughter-in-law (makoti). In Xhosa culture, when a woman gets married, it’s not just her surname that is changed. Gugu is holding a bowl of water for her in-laws to wash their hands before they sit down together to eat.
💛 It’s hard to describe exactly how beautifully exquisite this doll is. She has been lovingly hand-made by the talented Sibo. Her outfit is designed from traditional South African shweshwe fabric and has been fitted over a recycled bottle. Every detail has been carefully considered, from the ruffles on her dress to her jewellery.
💛 Gugu is completely unique and is one of a kind.
💛 She is perfect in her imperfection, please view the photographs carefully.
💛 Please note Gugu is extremely delicate and is for decoration only. She is not suitable as a toy for children
💛 Size: Approx. 30cm tall and 12 cm wide.
💛 Sibo lives in the Eastern Cape. To read more about her story, navigate to the blog page on our website.
